Craig Lowndes has highlighted that a performance review will be held at the end of the next season to ascertain if he will continue full-time at Triple Eight in 2019.
The three-time series winner inked a two-year extension with the Brisbane operation which will keep him at the operation until at least the end of 2019.
However, in an interview with motoring.com.au the fans’ favourite has revealed that he and Triple Eight will review his form after 2018 before committing for next season.
Lowndes has previously stated he intends to continue his career if he feels he is still competitive and has the desire to compete.
This season the veteran has struggled for qualifying pace and is yet to score a points paying podium result, but remains seventh in the championship standings.
“It’s a two-year program, but Roland (Dane, Triple Eight owner) and I will definitely sit down at the end of next year and analyse the year and work out what the best thing is for me and the team going forward is,” Lowndes told motoring.com.au.
“For me it’s a two-year deal, but we have to be realistic. If I am struggling next year to perform, well then you have got to be realistic and that’s an honest conversation to have. But you have got to have it.
“I am not getting any younger, but at the same time I have been very thankful to have longevity in the sport way longer than I ever expected.”
Lowndes has been loyal to the team since joining in 2005 with team owner Roland Dane reciprocating in the other direction.
It has been reported that the team intends Lowndes to become co-driver at the team when he does elect to call time on his full-time career.
