Supercars teams have been issued a new directive enforcing track limits at Turn 7 for today’s action at the Perth SuperSprint.
Drivers abused the run off area at the corner during Race 11 on Saturday but it did not breach rules as officials declared that track limits would not be enforced at Turn 7, provided the kerb sensor was not triggered, during a briefing on Friday.
As a result, new guidelines have been issued meaning drivers will now be penalised for running all four wheels over the white lines that designate the edge of the track.
“The track edge line at the exit of Turn 7 will determine the track limit and penalties will be applied in accordance with Rule B7.6 and Supplementary Regulation 4.7 as applicable,” reads the new directive.
During the race drivers will cop a penalty if they breach track limits on three occasions, while in practice or qualifying the lap and following lap time will be deleted.
Supercars has since confirmed that a judge-of-fact will monitor the corner exit via a dedicated camera feed in Race Control.
