Crick Focuses On Positives

Crick Focuses On PositivesThere were plenty of positives to take out of Cameron Crick’s debut in V8 Utes over the weekend at Winton Motor Raceway in Victoria, with the Toyota 86 Racing Series regular having shown promising speed in what was an unfamiliar car.

Driving the Plus Fitness supported Holden Commodore, owned by the Sieders Racing Team, Crick’s weekend begun with two practice sessions in the torrential rain, with his first dry run on Saturday being qualifying, where he ended up seventh fastest, after battling the tricky conditions.

Displaying good speed in his opening race, despite an opening lap retirement due to contact with another car, Crick continued his solid form in his second race, setting the fourth-fastest lap of the race on lap three and making his way up to sixth from the rear of field, before unfortunately making a driver error which saw slip back. Still suffering the repercussions of his previous race, Crick battled hard in his third and final race and managed to come home in ninth.

While he couldn’t quite capitalise on his speed to achieve his desired results, Crick showed plenty of promise in his V8 Utes debut and gained invaluable experience driving another form of race car, having only raced Toyota 86 cars previously.

“There were definitely a lot of positives to draw on, despite it being a somewhat challenging weekend,” admitted Crick.

“There’s a lot more horsepower in the V8 Utes than what I’m used to in Toyota 86 cars, and we were ultimately pleased with the pace we were able to achieve in our first outing. Overall, it was a very productive weekend and I gained a lot of experience as a driver, as well as added exposure.

“I have to say a big thanks to the Sieders Racing Team for allowing me to race their car, as well as all of the sponsors, especially Plus Fitness, that came on board and helped to make this a possibility.”

For his next appearance, Crick will be contesting the Townsville 400, which acts as the second Toyota 86 Racing Series round, on the Townsville Street Circuit on July 7-9.
