AFTER a successful 2022-23 season opener a fortnight ago, Hessions Auto Parts Grafton Speedway returns this Saturday night with the second race meeting of the season and it’s going to be headlined by the NSW Modlites Title and the thundering V8 powered Late Models.
For the third season in a row, the NSW Modlites Title will be attempted to be run around the 400-metre Grafton Speedway track. Last season’s NSW Title was forced to be cancelled due to the wet weather, so it sees Queenslander Rodney Pammenter head into this event as the defending NSW Champion.
The Toowoomba, Queensland-based Pammenter and his son Mitch are two of the form drivers in their home state, along with their team-mate Nathan Politch, while the likes of fellow Queenslander and ex-Australian Champion Klinton Hancey, who is aiming to reclaim the NSW Title that he has won on three occasions, two-time Australian Champion Terry Leerentveld, 2019 Australian Champion Kyle Honour, and the Lismore-based duo of Will Butler and Joshua Herne all have their sights on being front-running contenders.
The Modlites are one of the most competitive classes in Australian speedway, and they are customed built race cars that are powered by potent motorcycle engines.
In what is another exciting prospect, the Late Models are set to return to Grafton Speedway for the first time this season. After making a long-awaited return to Grafton Speedway last season, the class is keen to put on a spectacular show with their 900 horsepower machines.
When it comes to the contenders in Late Models, the likes of Aaron and Steve Van Zeeland from Queensland, fellow Queenslander Carter Armstrong, and the NSW-based visitor David Robertson are eager to get onto the top step of the podium.
Completing the night’s program are the following support classes: RSA Street Stockers, Production Sedans and RSA Junior Sedans.
Grafton Speedway would like to thank Hessions Auto Parts for their support throughout the 2022-23 season, which is their sixth season in a row as the track’s naming-right’s sponsor.
