Hillcrest racing driver Sean Evans is preparing to take on the Aussie Shade Solutions 200 Excel Cup endurance race this weekend at Queensland Raceway, joining series frontrunner Michael Tuckwood in the Funky Mexican Cantina Hyundai Excel.
Evans tested the car previously, and is excited to race in the hugely-competitive Excel Cup.
“It’s a great series and the racing is incredibly close throughout the field,” said Evans.
“It was the first race car I ever drove and I hope to build on the speed I had in the past and challenge at the front of the field.”
The former kart racer recently tested a Trans-Am 2 Series Chevrolet Camaro V8 race car, but is revelling in the challenge of racing the front-wheel drive Hyundai Excel.
“The driving style required by these cars are counter-intuitive to what i’ve been driving this year, but having the ability to adapt to different styles of racing is a skill that is beneficial to developing as a racing driver.”
“Even though they seem simple, the Excels are very complex and respond to every input the driver applies.
“Having come through karting, I hope to mould to the momentum-based driving style fairly well.”
Evans thanks the support of Michael Antonieff and the Funky Mexican Cantina race team, with general practice to commence on Friday followed by the endurance race on Sunday afternoon at the Ipswich Classic.
