The third round of the Swann Insurance Australasian Superbike Championship will be held this weekend at Queensland Raceway and Team Honda Racing is eager to defend their championship lead.
Wayne Maxwell (#47) stormed to the lead onboard his Motul Honda CBR1000RR SP ahead of team-mate Jamie Stauffer (#27) after a very impressive 6 wins from 6 starts at Round 2 ASC.
Maxwell has a 6 point lead in current championship points and he is hoping to continue his winning streak at this weekend’s event.
“Round 2 was a really strong event for me and taking 6 wins from 6 starts is not something easily replicated.
“The competition is going to be fierce at Round 3, but I will certainly be giving it everything I have. My injuries from riding overseas have all but healed and I had a great test at Queensland Raceway recently which gives me confidence of a strong event this weekend.”
Stauffer is currently placed 2nd in the championship points after an extremely impressive series of battles at the front of the field in the Round 2 races which has no doubt steeled his determination to win at Round 3.
“I am looking forward to racing at Queensland Raceway this weekend especially after the testing we did at the circuit recently.
“The bike is set up really well going into the event and with what we learned at the test I believe we will be very strong. The competition is definitely heating up with everyone’s injuries healed and fitness regained so we will see what unfolds.”
Josh Hook (#16) will be seeking maximum points at Round 3: “Round 2 was not ideal for me and I do have a lot of work to do which is why I am looking forward to getting out on track this weekend.
“I have been working really hard this past month to make sure I am 100 percent fit and ready to go. In testing with the team at Queensland Raceway I felt strong and the team has given me a good set up in the CBR1000RR SP so I am focused on bringing my best this weekend.”
Placed 4th in championship points after Round 2, #17 Troy Herfoss is one to watch at this weekend’s event at Queensland Raceway.
Rounding out the Team Honda Racing squad, Herfoss was pleased with his recent test, commenting: “It felt really good to get back on the bike at the test and the 2 days really gave me a chance to consolidate what I took from the previous Round at Mallala.
“Round 2 was good, but I am really looking forward to racing this weekend in Queensland and seeing if I can get on the podium at this event.”
