HDT Special Vehicles business owner and noted Peter Brock aficionado Peter Champion has put his comprehensive collection of the late legend’s race and road cars up for sale.
Champion’s 40-strong car collection includes a variety of original and replica competition vehicles.
Other original cars include Brock’s first Bathurst car (1969 Holden Monaro HT), one of his three ‘last Bathurst’ cars (2002 VX), the VH that won Bathurst in 1982 and 1983, a VK that was part of the 1984 Bathurst one-two, and a restoration of the Daytona Coupe in which he lost his life in 2006.
The move to sell comes two years after the ‘Champion’s Brock Experience’ museum was closed to the public due to a lack of patronage.
The cars have been sitting in Champion’s Yepoon, Queensland, facility since its official closure.
Champion, a former coal mining magnate, suffered a major heart attack last year and has since been looking to divest himself of some of his interests. He will continue to run the HDT Special Vehicles business.
“The time has come for the collection to move on, it has given myself and my team many moments of enjoyment and pleasure of sharing this collection with the general public over the years but the time has come for us to move on,” said Champion in a statement provided to Speedcafe.com.
The Champions Group is seeking expressions of interest for the cars as a collection, but says it may also sell the cars individually.
