Will Holzheimer, the young driver involved in the shocking crash that claimed the life of international Porsche star Sean Edwards at Queensland Raceway, remains in an induced coma.
Holzheimer, 20, is reported to be in a serious but stable condition in the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital after suffering multiple broken bones and lacerations.
The hospital has confirmed that Holzheimer, who was undergoing coaching from the immensely talented Edwards at the time of the accident, did not suffer any burns despite being stuck in the fiery wreck of the 996 GT3 Cup car for several hours.
The car Holzheimer was driving ploughed head-on into a bank of tyre barriers in front of a concrete wall at turn 6 at Queensland Raceway with Edwards killed instantly in the passenger seat.
Holzheimer has undergone brain scans and all indications are positive while he remains on a respirator in the ICU.
It is expected that he will have surgery tomorrow for multiple fractures to his right leg.
Further surgery on his more severely injured left leg has been scheduled to take place on Monday.
The cause of the accident remains unknown.
