Bundaberg Red Racing’s Fabian Coulthard and Andrew Thompson will sport a revised livery for both this weekend’s Skycity Triple Crown at Darwin’s Hidden Valley Raceway, plus the Sucrogen Townsville 400 in three weeks time.
Coulthard’s #24 and Thompson’s #10 Commodores will feature a new look for the ‘Top End’ events in Darwin and Townsville, with the revised livery an adaptation of Bundaberg Rum’s new advertising campaign, ‘Make your Smooth’ with the bonnet and the roof featuring graphics consistent with their new theme.
Coulthard says the change is a welcome addition.
“It looks pretty tough, let’s hope it makes us invincible on track” he joked.
Coulthard, currently 24th in the V8 Supercars Championship Series standings, will also have a new car to play with this weekend, assuming the reins of Garth Tander’s WR007 chassis (Tander has a brand-new car).
For Thompson, life is even harder. The Queenslander has not had the best luck, crashing heavily twice, which ruled him out of three races this year. Mechanical problems at Winton robbed him of a chance on his team’s track.
Regardless, Thompson is hoping Hidden Valley can be the round he turns it all around.
“My last experience in Darwin (with PWR Racing in 2008) was a pretty tough one so I am looking forward to getting back up there in my Bundy Red Racing Commodore,” Thompson said.
“I think this weekend we need to focus on getting the #10 in the window setup wise and really nail a few key things to prepares us for a good qualifying session.
“The test day couldn’t have been more timely after the year we have had so far but we won’t really know what improvements we have made until we get to qualifying in Darwin. Our goal this weekend really is to perform well in each session and get to the end of both races.”
V8 action kicks off on Friday with four practice sessions.
