Burgess plays down talk of Tekno REC sale
Tekno Autosports was in action at Queensland Raceway yesterday

Tekno Autosports team manager Adrian Burgess expects the squad to remain in its current structure next year despite interest in the purchase of its Racing Entitlements Contract.

The Queensland squad has operated as a single car operation since 2014, underpinned by its own REC, having scaled back from a two car team at the end of 2013 when it handed back a licence.

This season has seen the Jonathon Webb owned squad field a Triple Eight-built ZB Commodore for Supercars rookie Jack Le Brocq out of its state-of-the-art new workshop in Yatala.

Racing Entitlement Contracts remain an in demand commodity with Super2 team Kostecki Brothers Racing known to be keen to secure a REC to step up to the main game.

While Tekno is yet to officially confirm its plans for next year, Burgess, who joined the team full-time this season, has revealed there has been interest in the REC, but believes it will be business as usual for 2019.

“(It is) Normal for this time of year, there’s always people out there looking to buy REC’s, they come and knock on everyone’s door and ask the question and some of those stories make it out into the media,” Burgess told Speedcafe.com.

“Is there anything to it? I don’t think so with this REC. I’m not told there is and yes, people have asked us if we want to sell and up to this point in time I don’t I think Jonathon does, so we’ll soon be planning on carrying on, and we will see what the other people get up to.”

Burgess says conversations regarding Le Brocq’s future at the team have begun with all parties signalling a desire to continue next year.

Le Brocq has impressed during his maiden Supercars campaign having scored five top 10 finishes, including a best result of fifth at Symmons Plains, which has seen him emerge as the top rookie in the standings.

“We’ve certainly started the conversation about next year. At this point everyone wants to carry on and the intention is to carry on, but nothing is locked away yet,” Burgess added.

“We’ve had events that haven’t been that great, but we’ve had a lot of good solid events and the results sort of show that.

“The rookie cup game is unofficial, but it’s still one little thing that all five rookies came into the year wanting to be lead in that and this stage we are; it’s by no means over, but we believe he’s got the talent for the future.”

Le Brocq has reiterated his wish for a second season at Tekno Autosports having yet to spend two consecutive seasons at the same team since graduating to touring cars in 2014.

“It’s been really great. Everything’s gone to plan. We’ve got a fast car, we’ve proven that we can do the job. I’m learning, so if it’s not broke don’t change it,” Le Brocq told Speedcafe.com.

Tekno was in action at Queensland Raceway yesterday where it conducted its pre-Pirtek Enduro Cup test day alongside Shell V-Power Racing, Triple Eight and Matt Stone Racing.

Le Brocq and co-driver Webb enjoyed a trouble free day as they stepped up their preparations for next week’s Rabble.Club Sandown 500.
