Davison searching for sweet spot from upgrades

A thorough examination of several upgrades received this season is the main focus for Will Davison at next week’s team test day at Queensland Raceway.

The Tekno Autosports driver has quickly adapted to his Triple Eight built Holden Commodore this year which has translated into a victory and sixth in the standings after five championship rounds.

Davison’s Commodore has received multiple upgrades from Triple Eight since the start of the year as the single-car squad continues its relationship with the category’s heavyweight team.

Although happy with his Commodore’s progression, Davison says Tekno has a long list of set-ups to try at the Ipswich circuit on Tuesday as they endeavour to find the optimum performance from the package.

The opportunity represents Davsion’s first real chance to develop the car having spent a pre-season test day acclimatising to the Commodore, following an off-season switch from Erebus Motorsport.

“I’m really looking forward to it to be honest,” Davison told Speedcafe.com.

“I didn’t get to test last year with Erebus so it’s my first proper test day in quite a long time, so hopefully we get through a lot.

“We will be working through a wide range of things to get some answers. It is not necessarily development but it is about broadening our toolbox.

“We have proved our peak performance is right up there but the key to winning is to be consistent and I think we have a done a reasonable job.

“However, to take it up a notch we need to hit the nail on the head more often. For a new group the test day is really important.

“We have had some upgrades on the car and the test is a good chance to tune those upgrades.

“You often leave events not entirely sure what was good, what was bad and what we need to do to compensate and change.”

Davison admits the front-end of his car has undergone several changes this season aided by the team’s alliance with Triple Eight.

While keen to work closely with the Brisbane outfit, he says it is important to find his own set-up.

“We have had some changes in that (front end) department and we are trying to understand that and work out what we need to do to complement it,” added Davison.

“For every a update you have in the car you are giving away something elsewhere.

“We just need to continue to understand the car at the end of the day and just find that happy medium.

“We are working with Triple Eight and getting information from them, but it is important to have my own spin on the car.

“You can’t get too fixated on everything they (Triple Eight) do.”

Tekno Autosports will be joined at the test day by Triple Eight and DJR Team Penske.
