DJR to receive technical boost

Campbell Little

Ford Performance Racing’s senior engineer Campbell Little is set to be placed at Dick Johnson Racing in a further boost for the factory team’s customer outfit.

Expected to remain as Alex Davison’s engineer on race weekends for the rest of the season, the Queensland-based Little will head up DJR’s technical operations at its workshop between events.

Little has appeared somewhat on the outer at FPR this year having been moved to the Davison-driven entry following a three-year stint engineering Mark Winterbottom.

Although an announcement on Little’s re-profiled position could come as soon as today, FPR team principal Tim Edwards declined to be drawn into any detail when contacted by Speedcafe.com.

“What I decide to do with my engineering staff is my business as is which mechanics work on which car and which engineers work on which car,” he said.

“We have a very close relationship with DJR and our engineering group works quite closely with theirs.”

A driving force behind the success of Stone Brothers Racing and Triple Eight in the 2000s, Little joined FPR in 2010 following a brief tenure in V8 Supercars’ own technical department.

Little has operated remotely from FPR’s Melbourne base during his time with the team and is known to be on the shopping list of multiple Queensland-based squads for 2014.

The movement of technical staff has been a hot topic in recent weeks with news that FPR’s engineering manager Mathew Nilsson and Red Bull Racing Australia’s team principal Adrian Burgess are both on their way to the Holden Racing Team.

The FPR-DJR alliance has been in place since the start of the season, with the factory and customer cars largely identical apart from their engine packages.

The teams became significantly closer in May when FPR-contracted driver Chaz Mostert joined the squad.

Since Mostert’s debut at Barbagallo, the #12 Ford has been engineered by FPR’s Adam De Borre, with the duo sitting in on FPR briefings during the race weekends.

Mostert took his maiden V8 Supercars Championship race win last time out at Queensland Raceway, the first success for DJR in almost three years.

DJR sponsor Wilson Security confirmed on Thursday that it will continue to back the team through the balance of the season having previously operated under a rolling agreement.
