Honda's Eli Evans has started the final round of the East Coast Bullbars Australian Rally Championship in the right fashion winning the Pedders Power Stage at Lardner Park at Rally Victoria.
After days of heavy rain, the power stage was extremely slippery and it was more a case of caution than attack that paid off for Evans.
The result means Evans has claimed four out of the six Pedder's Power Stages this season, and allows him to continue to build momentum heading into the proper forest stages as he looks to extend his unbeaten Round win record this weekend to twelve.
“Shocked we won it!” said Evans.
”I really thought the conditions today brought out the worst for me, but I must have done enough on the corners I got right.
“When Glen (Weston, co-driver) told me the time at the end of the stage I was seriously surprised. It's strange, I honestly thought I'd made a meal of our run, I even managed to take out one of the wooden posts on the hairpin.”
Second fastest was Tom Wilde in the Renault Clio just one second behind. Three seconds further back was Scott Pedder (Renault) followed by Steven Mackenzie in a Ford Fiesta and the other Honda of Mark Pedder.
Rally Victoria features four late afternoon stages in the opening leg totalling 55.2 competitive kilometres. Tomorrow the rally has another seven stages.
