Racing Point Force India has officially confirmed that Lance Stroll will race for the team next Formula 1 season.
Stroll’s signing had been expected for months, given that a consortium led by his father Lawrence bought the financial troubled team’s assets in August.
Only now, however, has he been formally named on the 2019 grid, becoming Sergio Perez’s team-mate.
“I’m pleased that we can finally confirm Lance’s arrival to race alongside Sergio next year,” said Team Principal Otmar Szafnauer.
“It gives us an exciting line-up with the perfect blend of youth, talent, and experience.
“Lance is only 20 and already has two years of Formula 1 experience under his belt, as well as a podium finish and a front row start.
“We see huge potential in Lance and believe we can create an environment in which he can flourish.”
Stroll spent his first two years in the championship at Williams, with a third placing in Azerbaijan in 2017 his best result to date.
He finished 12th in last year’s world drivers’ championship and 18th in 2018.
“This is the beginning of an incredibly exciting journey in my Formula 1 career,” said Stroll.
“I look forward to working alongside a successful team with a great culture. It’s a new challenge and I am excited to embrace this new opportunity.”
Esteban Ocon, whose place Stroll takes, will be a reserve and test driver for Mercedes.
Stroll was the last driver to be named on next year’s grid after Scuderia Toro Rosso announced that Alexander Albon will replace Brendon Hartley at the start of the week.
