Mark Winterbottom remains melancholy after tangling with David Reynolds and tearing apart a decent result for Ford Performance Racing.
Winterbottom was solemn following his destructive move when the pair were both trying to hunt down eventual Race 17 winner Jamie Whincup.
The FPR mainstay tagged Reynolds and turned the Bottle-O driver around at the hairpin as the driver of the #5 Pepsi Max machine miscued an overtake when trying to grab second place from his stablemate.
He was promptly served with a drive-through penalty for the incident and finished the race in 22nd while Reynolds was left short-changed in finishing 14th.
“To have two competitive cars like we did it wasn't ideal,” Winterbottom told Speedcafe.com
“That I had a car good enough to chase down Whincup (race winner Jamie) and in the end what happened is not good.”
Earlier in the race the #6 FPR Ford of Will Davison copped a whack sending him into a spin with accusations flying around as to who was to blame.
In the incident Davison's Falcon suffered significant damage and was eventually forced to retire. The battered Ford then underwent substantial repairs headed by an engine change.
Holden Racing Team spearhead Garth Tander copped a hit from behind from Craig Lowndes which forced him into the back of Davison.
The aftermath was that Tander's Commodore suffered steering, suspension and front and rear aero damage from crumpled bumpers and bonnets.
