Jeff Grech will make a return to Australian race tracks this weekend, joining Australian GT Championship team Erebus Racing.
Grech, regarded as one of the most decorated team managers in Australian motorsport history, will serve the Mercedes Benz team in an advisory role at the Clipsal 500.
Coming off the back of a second place finish at the Armor All Bathurst 12 Hour, Grech will bring his experience from being apart of 10 Bathurst wins and eight Australian Touring Car Championship/V8 Supercars titles to observe Erebus Racing's approach operating its pair of Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 gullwings.
“Having Jeff Grech come on board for the Australian GT Championship round at the Clipsal 500 continues Erebus Racing's drive to be the most professional team in this part of the world,” said Erebus Racing team manager Ryan Maddison.
“Jeff has a wealth of experience and will observe how we, as a team, operate and its culture.
Since leaving the sport in 2009, Grech has been based in the Pilbara region in northern Western Australia, where he owns large trucks in the mining industry.
Grech says he is looking forward to making a return.
“Erebus Racing has given me a fantastic opportunity to come back to motorsport and one of my favourite events, the Clipsal 500,” said Grech.
“I won't be there to re-invent the wheel. The team has doubled almost overnight with the addition of a second SLS GT3, so it's undergoing a significant amount of change and I'll be there to mainly observe the team spirit and culture and ensure that round pegs are finding round holes, so to speak.”
The Erebus Racing gullwings will be driven by Peter Hackett and James Brock.
