Jenkins keen to remain in V8s after Tekno exit

Experienced team manager Bruce Jenkins has expressed his desire to remain in V8 Supercars after confirming his exit from Tekno Autosports.

The Briton distributed a media statement on Monday morning announcing his departure from the team after less than two years in the role.

He had been absent from both the Bathurst and Gold Coast events, with the team claiming he had been on ‘special projects’ at its workshop.

While declining to comment on the reasons behind his sudden exit, Jenkins has declared his desire to remain in the category.

“I would love to stay in V8 Supercars,” he told Speedcafe.com.

“It’s been very good to me. It’s a great championship and I’m very proud to be part of it and would like to continue to be.”

Jenkins has compiled a solid resume over the years working for leading open-wheel operations in Britain, including a stint at McLaren in Formula 1.

“V8 Supercars is a growing championship and is much respected on the other side of the world,” he continued, having played a key role in luring international drivers Jeroen Bleekemolen and Marc Lieb into Tekno’s squad for the recent Pirtek Enduro Cup.

“My resume reads well in single seaters and I’d like to keep building it down here.”

In the earlier statement Jenkins said he had informed Tekno of his decision to leave the Yatala operation on November 1.

“This is not a decision I’ve taken lightly, especially at this point in such a competitive season,” he said.

“V8 Supercars is one of the world’s leading motorsports categories and I have great respect for the teams, drivers and crews who work to keep this sport on the grid.”

Tekno drivers Shane van Gisbergen and Jonathon Webb sit seventh and 12th in the points standings respectively with two rounds remaining.

The team started the season in fine form with victory at the Clipsal 500 Adelaide but has struggled to be a consistent front-runner.

This season has seen a significant turnover of technical and management staff, with Jenkins’ friend and compatriot Adrian Burgess the most high profile mover after signing a deal to defect from Red Bull to Walkinshaw Racing.

Burgess is taking the managing director role currently held by Steve Hallam, who has been linked to the vacancy Jenkins leaves at Tekno.
