Lucas Dumbrell Motorsport will conduct a driver evaluation day before selecting its endurance drivers for the L&H 500 at Phillip Island and Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000.

The first-year team is looking at giving as many as five drivers a stint in the Gulf Western Oils Commodore VE at Winton after the Hamilton round to choose its driver to partner rookie V8 Supercars steerer Daniel Gaunt.

On LDM’s list to test include experienced drivers Adam Macrow, Mark Noske and Nathan Pretty, as well as Fujitsu V8 Series drivers Nick Percat and Tim Blanchard.

Team owner Dumbrell told Speedcafe.com.au that his preference is for an experienced driver to partner Gaunt in the two-driver races.

“We’re going to have a day out at Winton to see try out some young guys and some experienced guys and get a good idea of who we want for the endurance races,” he said.

“Getting a really experienced guy might help in our first attempt at Phillip Island and Bathurst.

“We’re looking at guys like Macrow and Noske – as long as they know themselves that they’re not out there to rejuvenate their career, they’re to do a good job and get to the finish. We want them to be consistent and hopefully help Daniel along as well.

“Having said that, I want to give some young guys a go as well to see what they’re made of. But for a first year team, I can really see us going with an experienced guy, because experience is invaluable.”

Dumbrell was reluctant to confirm the date of the test, considering it is tentatively planned after a street race.

“If we come back from New Zealand with a bit of damage, we might postpone it,” he said.

“But we want to get our enduro driver done so we can lock it away, get on with the job and give him some miles in other tests and get them up to speed.”
