Lloyd leads F4 championship after Race 3 win

Jordan Lloyd

Jordan Lloyd

Jordan Lloyd has taken the inaugural round win in the CAMS Jayco Australian Formula 4 Championship with victory in Race 3 at Townsville.

The Team BRM driver completed a lights-to-flag victory in the final 11 lap encounter of the championship’s maiden weekend.

However, the win was originally awarded to Drew Ridge after Lloyd was adjudged to have jumped the start and received a five second time penalty.

The decision was reversed after the race resulting in Lloyd taking the victory from Ridge and AGI Sport’s Jimmy Vernon.

“This first round of Formula 4 will definitely go down in the history books,” said Lloyd.

“I have just got to see if I can keep the championship lead now. The field is very competitive, even the younger guys in the field are very close to the more experienced drivers in the field so it’s very good.”

It was an impressive drive from Lloyd, who controlled the race from start to finish despite seeing his lead wiped out by a Safety Car period.

The Safety Car was deployed to recover Luis Leeds’ car after he was fired off following contact with Tom Grech.

Lloyd bolted once racing resumed as he charged towards the chequered flag ahead of Ridge, who just held off Vernon.

Harry Hayek finished fourth ahead of Nicholas Rowe, who secured second for the round, with a fifth place finish.

Thomas Randle fought hard to take the flag in sixth with Jordan Love seventh and Burson Rookie medal winner Will Brown in eighth.

Lloyd leads Rowe by 11 points at the top of the standings ahead of the championship’s second round at Queensland Raceway on July 31- August 2.
