Lloyd pips Leeds to Sandown F4 pole

Jordan Lloyd

Cams Jayco Formula 4 Championship leader Jordan Lloyd claimed pole position for the fourth round of the series at Sandown.

The Team BRM driver topped the majority of the session improving his times throughout before posting a personal best 1:14.5s effort.

Lloyd’s time claimed pole by just 0.1s as Luis Leeds produced a strong showing late on to snare a place on the front row in the Dream Motorsport entry.

It proved to be a hard fought qualifying hit out with the top five split by 0.18s.

The second row was headed by AGI Sport’s Jimmy Vernon, who pipped AGI Sport team-mates Zane Goddard and Jordan Love to third position.

Will Brown was sixth fastest to complete the third row in front of Tom Grech and Harry Hayek.

Championship contender Thomas Randle struggled for pace which has left him with plenty of work to do from ninth position.

Randle’s Dream Motorsport run car was repaired just in time for the session after sustaining heavy front end damage following an impact with the wall at Turn 4 in second practice.

Formula 4 rookie Caitlin Wood will complete the grid behind Francesco Maiolo.

The first of the weekend’s three F4 races is scheduled to begin at 0905 (local time) on Saturday morning.
