Former Williams driver Pastor Maldonado has been confirmed at Lotus for 2014.
Maldonado, the 2010 GP2 champion, has cemented his future at Enstone after spending the last three seasons at Williams.
The Venezuelan, who brings substantial backing with him, had also been in talks with Sauber which is yet to lock in its two drivers for 2014.
Maldonado won the Spanish GP for Williams last year but had become increasingly frustrated at a lack of competitiveness this season.
He has previously come under fire for his questionable driving tactics from his peers and his relationship at Williams had become strained since he it was announced he would be severing ties with the Grove squad after 2013.
Maldonado will ease into the seat vacated by Kimi Raikkonen who is joining Ferrari for a second time.
Felipe Massa will take up the spare Williams seat.
There remains uncertainty over several seats, chiefly at Force India and Sauber.
