Management shake-up at McLaren as Boullier quits

Eric Boullier

McLaren has announced a shake-up of its leadership team and structure following the resignation of Racing Director Eric Boullier.

The Frenchman has been one of the public faces of the team since joining in January 2014, and has been one of those who have come under fire in recent weeks in the British press after a 2018 season that has fallen below expectations.

Boullier’s resignation has seen Gil de Ferran be named as Sporting Director, with Andrea Stella becoming Performance Director.

De Ferran will be responsible for the team’s racing performance, with Stella overseeing trackside operations.

Production, engineering, and logistics will fall to Simon Roberts, who is Chief Operating Officer of McLaren Racing.

“I am very proud to have worked with such a brilliant team over the past four years, but I recognise now is the right time for me to step down,” Boullier said following his resignation.

“I want to wish everyone at McLaren the best for the remainder of the season and for the future.”

Team boss Zak Brown acknowledged the team’s lacklustre 2018, claiming the previous management structure has been the team’s undoing.

“The performance of the MCL33 in 2018 has not met the expectations of anyone at McLaren, especially our loyal fans,” Brown said.

“This is not the fault of the hundreds of committed and hard-working men and women at McLaren.

“The causes are systemic and structural, which require major change from within.

“With today’s announcement, we start to address those issues head on and take the first step on our road to recovery.

“I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of the entire team to thank Eric for his service and contribution to McLaren and wish him well in his future endeavours.”

McLaren currently sits sixth in the constructors’ championship, five points behind Haas and two clear of Force India.
