The crash involving several cars drew the red flag on the opening lap of Sunday’s Jim Richards Enduro Trophy race in Townsville, in an eerily similar circumstance to the corresponding race in 2025.
As the field jockeyed for position on the long run to the Turn 1 kink, Pro-Am competitor Eric Constantinidis and Pro runner Ben Taylor came together through the fast right-hander, sending both cars heavily into the outside wall.
Taylor’s car spun back across the circuit, collecting Stephen Moylan and Marc Cini among others.
Moylan climbed out of his battered car and walked over to Constantinidis’ machine, appearing to express frustration with the TekworkX driver.
TV footage showed medical staff attending the scene.
The field circulated for one lap under Safety Car before the red flag was flown.

Kobi Williams had gotten the jump at the start over his Tyler Greenbury Racing teammate Ryan Suhle.
The same race in the 2025 event was red flagged in similar circumstances following a multi-car crash, eventually declared a non-event.
The race restarted with seven minutes remaining, and Suhle took his first victory since returning to the category, leading home Williams for the second TGR 1-2 finish of the weekend.
Williams fell to third when Hunter Robb took advantage of an aggressive move for the lead from Suhle.
Robb and Williams’ battle came to blows on the penultimate lap when the pair came into contact at the final corner.
Williams worked his way back into second, with Robb forced to settle for third place.
Lincoln Taylor came home in fourth, while 2024 champion Oscar Targett rounded out the top five.
Back in the pack, Hayden Haikal found himself on the wrong side of several moves in the closing laps, tumbling down the order to 12th.
Anthony Gilbertson added to his tally of Pro-Am class wins, coming home in 13th outright ahead of Tim Farrell and Dean Wanless.
Race 3 is scheduled for 1:55pm AEST.
