Greg Murphy will drive the Shell V-Power Racing Team Mustangs in tomorrow’s Additional Driver Session at The Bend Motorsport Park.
The racer turned pit reporter will step into the breach left by the absence of both of DJR Team Penske’s Pirtek Enduro Cup drivers.
Scott McLaughlin’s co-driver, Alexandre Premat, remains in the United States where he is based while Tony D’Alberto, who will partner Fabian Coulthard for the long-distance races, is contesting the Suzuka 10 Hour this weekend.
Murphy has regularly driven in such sessions since becoming a full-time television pundit, taking the wheel of Brad Jones Racing’s #21 CoolDrive car at Symmons Plains earlier this year.
He also joined Craig Lowndes in an on-track demonstration during the Supercars Trackside preview show on Fox Sports at Winton in May, when the Kiwi piloted Tickford Racing’s Monster Mustang.
This weekend’s news was announced on Supercars Trackside, while Murphy drove the Mustang Safety Car with McLaughlin as a passenger, at which time he informed his compatriot he is “driving both” of the DJRTP Mustangs.
The Additional Driver Session, the first Virgin Australia Supercars Championship session of the OTR SuperSprint, starts tomorrow at 1045 local time/1115 AEST.
