Back-to-back title winner MW Motorsport could run as many as four Nissan Altimas in this year’s Dunlop Super2 Series.
Speedcafe.com understands that MWM has bought another Altima off Kelly Racing having campaigned three since midway through 2017, when delivery of the initial deal was completed.
Josh Fife and Declan Fraser have already been confirmed as starters for the Victorian squad in 2021, with last year’s leading Super2 rookie, Jayden Ojeda, expected to continue.
The man with whom Ojeda shared the Garry Rogers Motorsport wildcard entry at last year’s Bathurst 1000, Tyler Everingham, has been heavily linked to the fourth Altima.
Everingham has history with MWM, which fielded him to victory in the 2018 Super3 Series and also for his rookie season in Super2 in the following year.
The Dubbo driver won a race in tricky conditions at Sandown and would be named the Mike Kable Young Gun at season’s end.
He moved to Anderson Motorsport last year but, after a funding shortfall arising from being caught up in a crash at the Bathurst 12 Hour, only competed in Round 2 at Sydney Motorsport Park before vacating to focus on the Great Race wildcard.
Everingham shared the front row in the 2019 Bathurst Super2 round with Bryce Fullwood, who dominated the campaign and is about to embark on his second Repco Supercars Championship season with Walkinshaw Andretti United.
Thomas Randle then took the title in the same chassis last year, before landing a return to Tickford Racing on a multi-year deal which sees him contest the Bathurst 1000 as a co-driver this year, with the potential for a seat of his own in 2022.
Erebus Motorsport announced earlier today that a former MWM Super3 driver, Jaylyn Robotham, will pilot one of the Image Racing Commodores in Super2 this year.
Image and the other Victorian-based Super2 teams are set to test this coming Monday and/or Tuesday at Winton, before Round 1 supports the Repco Mount Panorama 500 on February 26-28.
