National Hall of Fame backed by Speedcafe.com

CAMS president Andrew Papadopoulos announced the establishment of the Hall of Fame during the peak body

CAMS president Andrew Papadopoulos announced the establishment of the Hall of Fame during the peak body’s national awards dinner earlier this year

Award winning website Speedcafe.com has secured a significant partnership with the establishment of an Australian Motor Sport Hall of Fame.

The inaugural staging of what is expected to become a blue riband awards ceremony in national motor racing, will see the first inductees announced in the Australian Motor Sport Hall of Fame presented by Speedcafe.com on March 19, co-inciding with the Formula 1 Grand Prix weekend in Melbourne.

Instigated by the Confederation of Australian Motor Sport, the awards to be held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, have garnered unequivocal support from the broad spectrum of domestic competition categories.

The inaugural staging of the event, which was first announced at the CAMS national awards dinner in Sydney earlier this year, will see up to 30 inductees across a range of categories.

Speedcafe.com’s deal as the official media partner coincides with the Australian Grand Prix Corporation, V8 Supercars, the CAMS Foundation, Famous Insurance and Imagine Technology joining as Platinum Partners for the event.

“Speedcafe.com has made an amazing contribution to Australian and world motorsport since its inception just six short years ago,” said Hall of Fame spearhead Garry Connelly.

“The fact the organisation has taken on the position as the Hall of Fame’s official media partner and as the event’s official presenting partner is testimony to its commitment.

“It is incumbent on us to pay tribute to these outstanding people and as such the entire motor sport community is driving this initiative.”

The inductees will be selected by a voting panel comprising representatives from each discipline of the sport and three motor racing journalists.

“While each of the major motor sport organisations have their own Hall of Fame, this is truly a national recognition of the leading achievers and contributors to the sport as a whole,” Speedcafe.com. founder Brett Murray said.

“It was always our goal to not only make Speedcafe.com a vital news source for motorsport fans in Australia, New Zealand and the rest of the world, but to become a respected and vital part and voice of the motorsport community as a whole.

“We will also be announcing a major initiative in coming weeks that will be another ‘first’ for Australian motor sport and it will have an effect on every member of the community.”

Exclusive pre-sale dinner tickets will go on sale today to members of each of the participating motor sport organisations and to Speedcafe.com subscribers.

Tickets to the black-tie event will be available to the public from Thursday through links on Speedcafe.com and cams.com.au for $295.

Platinum and Gold packages are available for corporates and large groups.
