David Reynolds scorched to his second career pole position after topping the shootout for Race 17 at the SKYCITY Triple Crown at Hidden Valley.

Reynolds, who qualified seventh for the shootout, produced a 1:09.5034s lap to claim the #1 starting spot for the 60/60 Super Sprint.

It repeated his effort in Townsville last year when the Bottle-O Ford driver snatched his maiden pole in the main game.

Jamie Whincup held his qualifying position to finish the shootout in second after posting a 1:09.5172s, with Will Davison third.

James Courtney will share the second row with Davison ahead of Mark Winterbottom and Jason Bright.

Rick Kelly produced another strong qualifying run for the Jack Daniels Nissan squad by improving from his 10th in qualifying to post the seventh fastest time in the one-lap shootout.

Shane van Gisbergen, whose car was confirmed as having a driveshaft failure in practice yesterday, will start from eighth.

HRT’s Garth Tander had a wild ride, running wide a couple of times and fighting a twitchy, oversteering car before clocking 1:10.3915s and will start from ninth.

Red Bull Racing Australia driver Craig Lowndes went from fastest in qualifying to start from 10th in the #888 Holden after running wide at turn one and several other points.
