Daniel Ricciardo has been given a 10 place grid penalty for the Bahrain Grand Prix as a result of an unsafe pit release during Sunday’s Malaysian GP at Sepang.
Despite serving a 10 second stop/go penalty during the race for the incident, the Red Bull driver has been handed a further 10 place grid demotion for the next race in Bahrain, as stipulated by the 2014 Formula 1 rules.
The Australian was running in fourth for the majority of the Grand Prix when trouble struck at his third scheduled pit stop.
Ricciardo left the pit box with his front left tyre not fastened sufficiently requiring his pit crew to push him back to his bay before he could rejoin the race.
A front wing failure and puncture shortly after forced Ricciardo into retirement, while Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton took the chequered flag from Nico Rosberg and Sebastian Vettel.
The decision comes just two weeks after stewards disqualified Ricciardo from second place at the Australian Grand Prix for consistently breaching the 100kg/h fuel flow limit during the race.
