The SAMB tabled the idea of two weekends of motorsport action in the city this year, putting the parklands venue into use on November 20-22, the weekend before the Adelaide Grand Final.
The plan was centred around the NAPA Speedway in the City venue and adding an additional weekend of dirt racing ahead of the main event.
Speedcafe understands the target was bike speedway categories for the first weekend before a switch to four-wheeled speedway – headlined by Sprintcars – for the Adelaide GF weekend.
However, as it stands the expansion appears to be off the table for now after early consultation with the Adelaide Park Lands Authority and other city officials.
Instead the speedway will only be held across as the Adelaide Grand Final weekend as has been the case the past two years.
“We talked about the possibility of an event [the weekend] prior and it was really just an expansion of the speedway event that we have at the BP Adelaide Grand Final,” SAMB CEO Mark Warren told ABC Radio.
“Such has been the popularity of the speedway, there’s many classes and categories that want to be part of it. So we were looking to potentially do something the weekend prior.
“It’s looking more likely now that we won’t need to do that, that we can fit those categories into the main event.
“We wanted to be fully transparent that there was a possibility of another event on the weekend prior, but as I said, it doesn’t look like that will be happening now.”
The 2026 BP Adelaide Grand Final will take place on November 26-29.
