Tin Tops
Duvashen Padayachee claimed a second Bathurst Tin Tops win in as many starts after late heartbreak for Steven Lacey.
Padayachee (#34 Porsche) led from pole following his Race 2 win on Saturday and controlled the race over the top, albeit until Conrod Straight as a determined Lacey swept into the lead.
Eyeing victory, Lacey’s #78 Chevrolet Camaro came to a spluttering halt at the exit of Turn 2 with just five minutes remaining, handing the lead back to Padayachee and vaulting Nathan Herne (#29 Dodge) into second.
Shortly after, local yellows flew at Turn 2 after Paul Axiak (#1 Holden Monaro) careened into the tyres after a failed challenge on Josh Buchan (#129 Honda Integra).
However, that wouldn’t prevent another Padayachee victory, with the #34 Porsche cruising to a 10-second victory over Herne, with Mark Duggan (#58 Aston Martin) beating Andrew MacPherson (#51 Porsche) to the final podium position.
Toyota Gazoo Racing Australia 86 Series
Lachlan Gibbons claimed his maiden win in the Toyota 86 category following a race long battle with Aaron Borg and Cameron Hill.
With Tim Brook withdrawing after his car was sold overnight, Hill started Sunday morning’s Race 4 from pole alongside Borg.
Borg cleared Hill under brakes into the Chase towards the end of the first lap to grab the lead, with Gibbons fighting past Cameron Crick at the Chase on Lap 3.
After he overtook Hill, a racy Gibbons caught Borg by the end of the sixth lap and completed the pass for the lead on pit straight.
Borg carried on with it and stuck with Gibbons, with Hill keeping a watching brief behind in third.
The stricken car of Kody Garland triggered local yellows at the exit of the Cutting for the final lap. Borg completed a stunning pass at the outside of Turn 2 to reclaim the lead, with the leaders clearing the yellow zone.
Gibbons then snatched the lead back on Conrod Straight, and with an eye on a maiden victory, he ran a defensive line at the final corner, with side-to-side contact allowing Hill to sneak past Borg into third.
