Andre Heimgartner believes extra curricular activities in TCR Australia and Blancpain GT World Challenge Asia will prove beneficial for his Supercars campaign.

The New Zealander heads to the Truck Assist Winton SuperSprint having raced three consecutive weekends in different categories so far this month.

After the Pirtek Perth SuperNight, Heimgartner was drafted in to join the HubAuto Corsa Ferrari GT squad at the Buriram International Circuit in Thailand the following weekend, where he helped pilot the 488 GT3 to fourth and second in the races.

Last weekend the 23-year-old completed the hat trick by contesting the inaugural TCR Australia series round for Kelly Racing in what proved to be a challenging debut behind the wheel of a Subaru WRX.

This weekend he returns to the familiar surroundings of Supercars and is confident the extra seat team will only serve to help him, citing the success Shane van Gisbergen had when he won the Blancpain Endurance Series and Supercars crowns in 2016.

“I’ve got the Blancpain Asia series which is three meetings I think so it’s something like, 25 meetings from now until the end of the year,” said Heimgartner, who scored his maiden solo Supercars podium at Phillip Island in April.

“I reckon its a bit like Shane van Gisbergen, it is good to be racing as much as you can. You can only help all these processes you go through like the starts, cold tyres, all that stuff.

Heimgartner will return to the Nissan Altima this weekend

“I think it really helps.”

Having raced three vastly different cars this month, Heimgartner, who will race all seven rounds of TCR Australia, feels he won’t have an issue adjusting back to his Nissan Altima Supercars at Winton.

Although, he admits jumping in a Supercar at the end of a day testing a TCR car last week was a little mentally challenging.

“I think (it will be interesting jumping back in the Supercar), he added.

“It’s very, very different. On the last test I drove Garry (Jacobson’s) car for a couple of laps straight after a whole day of this (TCR) and, my brain was not working in the right way.

“I think having a week off, or a few days off, my brain will reset, and it will be as good as new.”

Heimgartner will share his #7 Altima on Saturday with newly announced Pirtek Enduro Cup co-driver Bryce Fullwood, who will take the wheel in the Additional Driver Practice.
