Indianapolis 500 winner Will Power sat down with Speedcafe.com to reflect on a career defining year for the IndyCar star.
The Team Penske driver from Toowoomba became the first Australian to win IndyCar’s prestigious showpiece event in May on his 11th attempt.
Power’s victory proved the missing piece of a stellar IndyCar career to date that includes the series title in 2014.
“It was a great year all round but obviously winning the Indy 500 was the absolute highlight of the year and probably the last 10 years,” Power told Speedcafe.com.
“It was really the last box I had to tick in IndyCar and I would be very disappointed if I’d reached the end of my career and not have won it.
“I had those thoughts of maybe I’ll never win it. I think I have won more races than anyone in the last 10 years, led more laps, got more poles, but I hadn’t won the Indy 500.”
