IndyCar CEO Mark Miles has described efforts on bringing the series back to the Gold Coast as having ‘intensified’.
While Miles did not disclose any new specific details on the project, having previously told Speedcafe.com that a decision could be made before the end of this February, the comment suggests that talks with the Queensland Government remain positive.
It also establishes that February 2020 remains feasible for a return date.
“We are working hard, and it was made public by the premier of Queensland in Australia on the possibility of having a return to Surfers Paradise in Queensland on the Gold Coast of Australia,” he said in a press conference regarding IndyCar’s domestic television coverage at Indianapolis.
“If that’s possible, it could be done for probably February of 2020.
“That’s work that is very intensified right now and is something that hopefully might be achieved and finalised in the next couple of months.

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk had sought talks with IndyCar about reviving the event after a meeting with 2018 Indianapolis 500 winner Will Power in October, resulting in a visit from Miles the following month.
IndyCar last raced on the streets of Surfers Paradise in a non-championship round in 2008, the first year of unification, which was won by Sydney native Ryan Briscoe in a Team Penske entry.
