Surf Lifesaving Queensland has been confirmed as the official charity partner of the Armor All Gold Coast 600 on October 22-24.
The announcement marks 30 days before the kick off of the new international-flavoured Surfers Paradise street race.
Both organisations celebrated the partnership at Surfers Paradise Surf Life Saving Club today with local lifesavers and nippers joining V8 Supercar drivers Jamie Whincup, Alex Davison and Shane van Gisbergen on the beach for games while Armor All Gold Coast 600 General Manager Shane Howard, Gold Coast Miss V8 Supercar finalists and Surf Life Saving Gold Coast Regional Coordinator Stuart Hogben looked on.
Armor All Gold Coast 600 General Manager Shane Howard was pleased to confirm SLSQ as the charity partners for the Gold Coast event as the final 30 day countdown officially got underway.
“Surf Lifesaving Queensland is an iconic part of Australia, as are V8 Supercars in Australia and internationally, so I think together we make a pretty good fit,” said Howard.
“I am looking forward to seeing the Gold Coast lifesavers at the Armor All Gold Coast 600 in 30 days time, and I urge everyone to get behind this great cause at the event.
“It’s fitting that the track runs right beside on of the world’s greatest beaches in one of the world’s most desired locations. These incredible pictures will then be broadcast around the world.
“With just 30 days to go, the final preparations for the Gold Coast’s biggest party are really starting to rev up, and before we know it we will be seeing some of the world’s best drivers pairing up with our V8 Supercar heroes on the streets of the Gold Coast.”
Acting Sport Minister Karen Struthers said it’s great to see an iconic organisation such as SLSQ getting behind the Armor All Gold Coast 600.
“The countdown is definitely on for what will be a fantastic motor racing event on the Coast,” he said.
“There’s a buzz in the air and I know motor racing fans can’t wait to see the V8s race around the streets of the Gold Coast.”
The Armor All Gold Coast 600 will take place on the streets of the Gold Coast from Friday October 22 to Sunday October 24, with just 30 days now remaining until Queensland’s premier motorsport event comes to life.
