Honda has taken the covers off its NSX GT3 challenger at the New York International Auto Show.
The Japanese manufacturer is the latest to join the global GT3 category with its NSX set to make its competition debut in North America next year.
Jointly developed by the marque in Japan alongside the Italian JAS squad, which operates Honda’s World Touring Car Championship program, the NSX GT3 will be powered by a 3.5 litre twin turbo V6 engine.
A full factory effort is planned in North America where the car will be badged as an Acura NSX GT3.
The car is set to undergo FIA Balance of Performance tests later this year ahead of its planned 2017 debut.
“The NSX was designed as a pinnacle expression of Acura Precision Crafted Performance, and we’re looking forward to proving out its ultimate performance capabilities in GT3 racing,” said Art St. Cyr, president of HPD.
“We’ll be working with the NSX engineering teams in Ohio and Japan to bring our dream of a truly world-class new Acura NSX racecar to fruition.”
