Alex Davison’s first hit-out with Erebus Motorsport has come to a premature end after a crash during the team’s official test day at Queensland Raceway.
The co-driver to brother Will Davsion for the upcoming Pirtek Enduro Cup skidded into the barriers at Turn 3 early in the afternoon.
Alex, who was making his debut behind the wheel of the Erebus Mercedes, escaped the incident unscathed.
It is understood the crash was caused by a rear brake problem.
Davison admitted there had been no warning from the car that a problem was about to arise.
“The rear brakes didn’t work and the pedal went to the floor, (but) luckily the front brakes were still working so it slowed it down a bit,” Davsion told Speedcafe.com.
“There was nothing I could do as you brake so late down at Turn 3. When you get to the braking point there is nothing you can do or anywhere to go.
“Everything happens in slow motion.”
Up until the accident, Davison had been enjoying his return to V8 Supercars and believes there are still plenty of positives to take from the day.
“The car was really nice and I felt pretty comfortable. I was a bit apprehensive because this is the longest stint in my entire career where I have not been racing or driving,” he said.
“I got my eye in pretty quick and everything was going really well. I was lapping at a similar speed to the other guys.
“I feel more sorry for Will and the guys as I was nearly at the end of my laps I was going to do and they are going to miss out on three or four hours of testing which is valuable at this time of year.”
Testing resumed following the break to retrieve Davison’s stricken Mercedes.
The incident followed a power steering problem for the #9 Mercedes earlier in the morning that cost Will almost half an hour of running.
