Bathurst Champion Chaz Mostert will return to his karting roots tomorrow at the Race of Stars, presented by Speedcafe.com at the Xtreme Karting Complex at Pimpama.
Mostert will form part of a Celebrity Challenge that will include fellow V8 Supercars stars Tim Slade, Lee Holdsworth and Steve Owen, along with Jack Perkins, Michael Caruso, Fabian Coulthard and Alex Premat. Australian Cycling legend Robbie McEwen will also take part in the event.
All drivers will be available for autographs with fans at the event, which is a free entry event as part of the V8 Superfest.
In today’s practice, the Europeans set the pace in the six-speed KZ2 category – all stunned with the speed they were reaching on the long, flat out straights.
Patrizicorse racer, Simo Puhakka – second in the German KZ2 Championship this year – set the pace. Three-time World Champion, Jonathan Thonon took his Praga kart to second quickest with Kiwi Daniel Bray showing good form in third.
Australian legend, David Sera was fourth quickest with Adam Hughes – being mechaniced by Coates Hire V8 Supercar racer, Nick Percat – a surprise fifth just in front of superstar, Davide Fore. Percat has plenty of work to do overnight however, with Hughes coming together with Puhakka’s Patrizicorse team-mate, Marijn Kremers in a frightening accident that has seriously damaged his Energy Kart.

A further two Aussies made the top 10 with Troy Bretherton an outstanding eighth and Bundaberg flyer, Kel Treseder 10th.
In the TAG 125 class, local driver Mitchell Griffin finished fastest ahead of Adam Mercer and Troy Morrissey.
Zane Morse set the pace in the elite Junior KF3 category as did Toowoomba’s Will Brown in Junior National. Jai Brown was fastest in the Cadets class, the youngest drivers on track this weekend.
Tomorrow’s action at the one-day star-studded Race of Stars event, presented by Speedcafe.com gets under way at 8am with qualifying, all of the action will be shown live onspeedcafe.com/kartinglive from 12pm (Queensland time).
