Walkinshaw Racing has confirmed that Australian IndyCar driver Ryan Briscoe will drive a Bundaberg Red Racing Commodore at the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 next month.

Briscoe, currently fifth in the IndyCar standings, will line up alongside the team’s regular driver Andrew Thompson in the #10 Bundy Red Racing Commodore while young gun Nick Percat, who drove for team at the L&H 500 earlier this month, will step into a WR-supported Fujitsu V8 Series entry, sponsored by Bundaberg Red Racing – CLICK HERE for the Percat/Bathurst story.

The second Bundaberg Red Racing Commodore will be driven by Kiwi pair Fabian Coulthard and Craig Baird.

This will not be Briscoe’s first race in a V8 Supercar. The Aussie international drove a Holden Racing Team Commodore in 2006, sensationally placing the car on provisional pole position at the Sandown 500 – his debut race.

In the 2006 Bathurst 1000, Briscoe teamed with Jim Richards in his last V8 Supercars race, but Richards crashed in the opening stint of the race.

Walkinshaw Racing CEO Craig Wilson said that he is thrilled to have Briscoe back in the Walkinshaw Racing family.

“To have someone with Ryan’s ability and experience join the team will be a great boost for Bundy Red Racing,” he said.

“It was a pleasure to have him drive for us in 2006 and we look forward to welcoming him back into the family when he returns to Australia for the Bathurst 1000.”

After Bathurst, Briscoe will move across to the team’s sister operation, the Toll Holden Racing Team, for the Armor All Gold Cost 600 in late October.

Wilson thanks Percat for a faultless debut drive at Phillip Island.

“Nick did a fantastic job on debut,” he said.

“He was a welcome addition to the Walkinshaw Racing line-up for first endurance event of the season.”

The Bathurst 1000 kicks off on October 7-11 2010.
