Bristol NASCAR race suspended due to rain

The field in pit lane with rain falling at Bristol

Kyle Larson will lead when the Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway finishes on Monday (local time) after rain caused a suspension with 204 of 500 laps completed.

The start had already been delayed by half an hour before three separate red flags for rain and another to clean up a crash.

Brad Keselowski (#2 Team Penske Ford) won the first 125-lap stage from Ryan Newman (#31 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet) and Clint Bowyer (#14 Stewart-Haas Racing Ford).

Ryan Blaney (#12 Team Penske Ford) had led 99 of those laps and was still in front when his race ended having not been able to avoid a coming-together between Chris Buescher (#37 JTG Daugherty Racing Chevrolet) and Trevor Bayne (#6 Roush Fenway Racing Ford) on Lap 117.

Michael McDowell (#34 Front Row Motorsports Ford) had earlier caused a multi-car prang when he spun on Lap 3.

Larson (#42 Chip Ganassi Racing Chevrolet) took over the lead in Stage 2 before the race was finally postponed, with action set to resume tomorrow at 0300 AEST.
