Gaz and Daz are joined by media manager for the event Chris Nixon and Sprints president Tricia Chant to discuss all things Leyburn.
Doused in motorsport history, the tiny Southern Downs township of Leyburn, near Toowoomba in Queensland, famously hosted the 1949 Australian Grand Prix.
Chant describes the challenges of bettering the Sprints year-on-year – particularly after the 75th anniversary celebrations of the 1949 grand prix in 2024 – and details the growth of the event over the years from competitors to patronage.
This year’s running of the Sprints celebrates not only its own 30th anniversary, but also legends of Australian motorsport with an exclusive one-night-only event on the Thursday ahead of the Sprints.
Dubbed ‘A Night with the Stars, Under the Stars’, a line-up of special guests includes Dick Johnson, John Bowe, Colin Bond, Kevin Bartlett, Charlie O’Brien, Steve Masterton, Bap Romano, Bruce Allison, and Andrew Miedecke.
A Night with the Stars will be held at former rugby league star Shane Webcke’s Ellangowan Woolshed on Thursday August 13.

The group also dives into the off-track activations around the grounds at the Sprints, including the Shannons Super Rig 2.0, a Show ‘n’ Shine competition, Vintage Van Village, and much more.
A packed field of 246 entries will hit the track at the Sprints this year, and fans will also be treated to demonstration runs of two very special cars from Miedecke’s collection – a Peter Brock Mobil Ford Sierra, and an ex-DTM Mercedes-Benz 190E.
The 30th anniversary of the Historic Leyburn Sprints will be held on August 14-16.
