Erebus Motorsport is targeting a track return tomorrow for Will Brown’s battered car in time for the opening qualifying session of the Supercars season.

Brown crashed heavily about halfway through Practice 1 at the Repco Mount Panorama 500, suffering severe front-end damage.

Such was the concern surrounding the car’s state that Brown publicly admitted his maiden event as a Supercars Championship full-timer might be over almost before it began.

The Erebus crew however wasted no time getting stuck into repairs.

There had at one stage been potential to use Brown’s private plane to fly to Mount Gambier in South Australia – where Erebus fabricator James White is based – to pick up additional parts.

That has since been ruled out, but a long night ahead still looms.

Team boss Barry Ryan told Speedcafe.com the aim was to get the #9 back on track for Saturday qualifying, beginning 0905 AEDT.

“When we first pulled it apart we thought it’s worse than we’ve had here, it’s worse than the Luke Youlden one in 2019,” Ryan later told the broadcast.

“But we’ve brainstormed a few ideas and we’ve got a way to fix it so we’ll be out for qualifying in the morning; that’s our target.

“Will has promised the boys some very special things if we make it out.”

Elaborating on Brown’s promise to the crew, Ryan added, “He’s promised us if we get it out there for qualifying, he’ll make the Shootout.”

Brown will not take part in Practice 2 this afternoon, with work ongoing.
