BTCC launches 60th anniversary season

The British Touring Car Championship will once again welcome a 32 car grid for the 2018 season

The British Touring Car Championship launched its milestone 60th anniversary season at Donington Park.

Series organisers TOCA has confirmed a capacity 32 car grid which features arguably its strongest line-up that includes 17 race winners.

This season sees four manufacturer backed teams in Subaru, BMW, Honda and Vauxhall set to do battle with a host of independent operations.

Reigning champion Ash Sutton, who tested a Walkinshaw Andretti United Commodore earlier this month, returns to defend his crown for Team BMR (Subaru).

Honda will debut the new shape Civic for Matt Neal and new signing Dan Cammish, with the model among a range of fresh variants to join the series.

Alfa Romeo will be represented on the grid for the first time since 2007, following the creation of a Giulietta NGTC car, to be run by Handy Motorsport.

Meanwhile, Motorbase Performance will run the new Ford Focus RS for Sam Tordoff, Tom Chilton and James Cole.

The grid will also be populated by models from Mercedes, MG, Volkswagen, Audi and Toyota.

To mark its 60th anniversary, the championship, which began in 1958, will host an extended showpiece 60 mile (96 km) race at Snetterton in July, featuring double points and no success ballast.

The 30-race championship will begin at Brands Hatch Indy from April 7-8.
