Chevrolet has unveiled the Camaro NASCAR Cup car which will replace the out-of-production SS from 2018.
The General Motors marque will run ZL1 bodywork in NASCAR from next year, joining the Camaro SS in the sport after that model was introduced to the second-tier Xfinity Series in 2013.
The Chevrolet SS has been the bowtie’s fighter in the Cup since 2013, taking 71 race wins thus far.
However, the road version of the Chevrolet SS, actually a Holden Commodore built in Adelaide, notionally went out of production earlier this year, with the Elizabeth factory closing for good on October 20.
The ZL1 Cup car was unveiled at General Motors’ Renaissance Center head office in Detroit, with seven-time Cup champion driving the Camaro into the presentation.
The car will make its competitive debut at Daytona in February.
