Citroen will field just two C3 WRC cars at Kennards Hire Rally Australia after Mads Ostberg confirmed the French squad would not field a car for him.
The Norweigan was set to drive a third entry for the factory Citroen team, joining Sebastien Ogier and Esapekka Lappi for the season finale.
However Ostberg has taken to Twitter to confirm that he will now not take part in the event after Ogier’s championship hopes ended last time out in Spain.
“No Rally Australia for us unfortuanately,” the 32-year-old confirmed.
“Our participation depended on Sebs (sic) chances of winning the championship. You all know how that ended.”
Ogier’s title hopes officially came to an end following an eighth place finish at Rally Spain after suffering power steering and hydraulics problems early in the event.
With Hyundai-bound Tanak finishing second, it was enough to have the Estonian take the title with a round to spare.
With nothing to therefore be gained by fielding a third entry in the Coffs Harbour event, Citroen has pulled the pin on Ostberg’s outing.
Ostberg has been campaigning a Citroen C3 R5 after being dropped from the WRC squad at the end of last year.
No @RallyAustralia for us unfortunately. Our participation depended on Sebs chances of winning the championship. You all know how that ended. We would love to be there as we proved last year we can jump in a WRC car anytime and be podium material @OfficialWRC #fightingviking pic.twitter.com/Co8xCE7zff
