Mike Conway has secured his maiden IndyCar pole position in qualifying for the second race at the Belle Isle circuit in Detroit.
In doing so Conway handed the Dale Coyne Racing outfit its first IndyCar pole for the 70-lap race.
Conway has taken over the drive from Ana Beatriz and wasted no time in justifying his appointment by recording a 1:18.0977s lap.
James Jakes made it a British front-row after setting a 1:18.1704s with the qualifying session consisting of two groups – the first made up of the odd-number positions from practice while the even numbered positions comprised group two. Jakes was in the first group with Conway in the second.
Penske driver Will Power will start from third while his nemesis Ryan Hunter-Reay will start beside him in fourth.
