Craig Lowndes will remain with TeamVodafone for at least the next three years.
The three-time V8 champion’s team boss Roland Dane has confirmed that Lowndes will remain with the squad until 2015, and possibly longer.
“He has agreed to stay here,” Dane told News Limited. “And we couldn’t be any happier about it – I think It’s great for the team, for Craig and for the sport.”
Lowndes, 37, is one of the sport’s most successful drivers, and is currently the most recognised face in the field.
He joined Dane’s Triple Eight Race Engineering squad in 2005 and has won the Bathurst 1000 four times with the team. He is yet to win the title for the team.
Dane says that Lowndes can win again.
“I think Craig has plenty left,” he said.
“Last year was really good for him (finished second in the championship), and I think it has given him the motivation and the belief that he can keep going at the top for a long time.”
While Lowndes has re-signed, the future of his team-mate and reigning V8 champion Jamie Whincup is unclear.
“We are yet to come to an agreement,” Dane said of Whincup’s future with the team.
“But we are talking with him and have had productive discussions. I am very confident we will keep him.”
The Clipsal 500 kicks off in Adelaide today, with all of the support categories on track. The V8 Supercars will hit the circuit tomorrow.
