A veteran of open wheel, touring car and GT racing, Miedecke will join a line-up of motorsport legends on the night before the event commences, dubbed ‘A Night with the Stars, Under the Stars’.
Miedecke joins Dick Johnson, John Bowe, Colin Bond, Kevin Bartlett, Charlie O’Brien, Steve Masterton, Bap Romano and Bruce Allison as special guest speakers.
When on-track activity commences, the Port Macquarie-based driver will perform demonstration runs in two incredible machines – an ex-DTM Mercedes-Benz 190E, and a Peter Brock Mobil Ford Sierra.
“I’ve been keen to come to Leyburn for a long time. I’ve heard a lot about it, but just never had the time,” Miedecke said.
Miedecke’s esteemed career spans from racing open-wheel machinery in the 1970s before a shift into touring cars in the 1980s.
After his full-time racing career came to an end in the late ‘80s, Miedecke became a regular co-driver at Bathurst, yielding a podium finish in 1997 alongside Mark Larkham.

Leyburn Sprints president Tricia Chant described the addition of Miedecke as “an exciting prospect” for fans and the event.
“Andy is a great personality with a fantastic racing record in many different cars and championships,” she said.
“As well as attending our Night with the Stars at Shane Webcke’s Ellangowan Woolshed, Andrew will be on deck to sign autographs on Saturday and Sunday.
“He’ll also be seen on the Speedcafe.com live stream as he demonstrates his fabulous Mercedes and Sierra on-track.”
Almost 250 cars have been entered for the 30th anniversary event, a near-record field of classic and modern machinery.
“Once again the historic racing community has entered an extraordinary number and variety of cars for the Historic Leyburn Sprints,” president Chant added.
“Spectators will see everything from a 1925 Austin – named Alfred and driven by 86-year-old Justin McCarthy – a 1925 Crossley and a 1926 Austin to a 300km/h Porsche GT3 and many other wonderful cars in between.
“We’ve got popular family cars like Holden, Ford and Chrysler and expensive exotics, plus father-and-daughter team Colin and Belinda Schiller are each driving MGs that raced in 1949 – highlighting our Australian Grand Prix heritage.
“There will be Le Mans-type sports cars represented by a Jaguar D-Type, Jaguar XJ13, Porsche 910, Lister “Knobbly” Jaguar and a Ford Shelby Daytona, while we have another hot line-up of outright challengers led by last year’s top three – Australian Hillclimb Champion Dean Amos (Gould GR55B V8), Warwick Hutchinson (OMS28) and Brett Bull (BB MHC).”
