Davies named in second MW Motorsport Nissan

Shae Davies has his sights fixed on a Dunlop Super2 Series title push after completing a deal to pilot the second Matt White Motorsport Nissan Altima.

The 26-year-old is gearing for his third season in the second tier Supercars series and his second campaign with the Melbourne squad.

Davies will join the recently confirmed Jack Le Brocq in the second Altima as part of MW Motorsport’s new look following the announcement of a technical alliance with Nissan Motorsport in the off-season.

The Queenslander will carry a striking grey, orange, black and blue livery on his Altima featuring prominent backing from Loco energy drink.

After finishing eighth and 10th in his previous campaigns, Davies believes the MW Motorsport Nissan will offer him his best shot yet to win the coveted Dunlop Super2 title.

The former Porsche Carrera Cup driver says his part-season in Supercars with Erebus Motorsport last year will ensure he is better prepared this year.

“Main game opportunities were thin and it has been desire of mine to win the Dunlop Series title,” Davies told Speedcafe.com.

“So that was something that was very attractive to me and Matt has put a great package together.

“The title is the number one goal. I think the series will be hotly contested this year.

“It is a new undertaking with the Nissan but they are working closely with the team and they (Nissan) want it to work as much as us.

“I think it will be a very good year for us and we will hit the ground running.

“I think the Supercars experience from last year will help too.

“It was a very steep learning curve but I think I will be very well prepared for this year.”

Davies also has plans to take advantage of the new regulations which allows Dunlop Super2 Series drivers to compete as wildcards in main game rounds at Winton, Perth, Queensland Raceway and Darwin.

Although yet-to-be confirmed, wildcard runs at Queensland Raceway and Perth are thought to be most likely.

The Brisbane-born pilot is already feeling at home in his new rig having completed a test day.

“It (the Nissan Altima) has some good unique characteristics which we like a lot,” he added.

“The horsepower seems to be good too, so I’m feeling good about the package.”

Davies will jump behind the wheel of the Altima for one final test at Winton today ahead of the Clipsal 500 season opener in Adelaide from March 2-5.
