Will Davison has reacted to Ford Performance Racing's confirmation that he will be replaced by Chaz Mostert next season.
In a note on his website, Davison wrote that his decision to leave FPR will make sense once his new program is made public.
“Today I can confirm that I have made the decision to leave Ford Performance Racing (FPR) at the end of this season,” he said.
“While I cannot yet share details of my plans for 2014 and beyond, please be assured I will continue to be involved with V8 Supercar racing at the highest level and am very excited about what the future holds.
“I'm obligated to not talk about the new program at this stage but I am sure everyone will understand my decision once the details emerge.
“While disappointed with my decision to leave FPR, the relationship remains amicable and together we are committed to earning the coveted #1 at the conclusion of this year's Championship.
“I look forward to telling you more when I can.”
News of Davison's impending defection to Erebus drew a mixed reaction on social media on Wednesday, with many questioning whether the Mercedes squad will prove as competitive as the Ford outfit next year.
Davison joined FPR in 2011 following a two-year stint with the Holden Racing Team, which had in turn been preceded by two years at Dick Johnson Racing.
The currently Melbourne-based driver sits fourth in the points standings heading into this weekend's Armor All Gold Coast 600.
