With the brand new super smooth surface at the Mount Panorama track, the teams are uncertain of the race strategy with regard to the Dunlop Sport Maxx control tyre.
It was plain to see in the opening practice sessions how much pace a new set of Dunlops gave the front runners.
The new track surface is very fine grained and the tyres come off the car looking brand new.
Wear won’t be an issue in the 161 lap race on Sunday.
But how long to leave them on for will be the $64k question.
The team that saves a green set or two for use in the race will also have that brand new tyre advantage.
It’s a fascinating battle, as it always is at Mount Panorama.
Sunday night will tell us the answers and I can’t wait.
